Day 04: A movie you’re embarrassed to admit you like

Underworld (2003)

I don’t really like to advertise the soft spot I have for this film, especially since it spawned a genuinely crappy franchise and it takes itself way too seriously to function on a campy level.  Yet I still maintain that the original movie had, somewhere buried deep beneath all that faux gothic nonsense, a certain style and elegance that sadly was not preserved in any of the sequels.  Yes, the dialogue is cheesy.  Yes, that blue tint can get really irritating.  And yes, I still like it.

I like the complex world the characters live in.  I love that that world has a history, and I love that that history is not what it initially seems.  The action sequences are very graceful and interesting to watch.  Bill Nighy is wonderful, and Kate Beckinsale just looks so damn cool.

If this movie comes on TV I watch it.  Well, unless someone else is around that is.

Day 03: A movie you wish more people had seen: The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982)

Day 02: A movie you can recite word for word: Victor Victoria (1982)

Day 01: The first movie you remember seeing: Aladdin (1992)
