Day 03: A movie you wish more people had seen

The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982)

Sigh.  I’ve basically given up trying to get my friends to watch this movie.  They seem to have no interest no matter how much I talk it up.  I don’t think I’ve ever encountered anyone outside my family who knows it, and that’s just depressing because it’s friggin awesome!  Ok, sure, it’s not a work of genius by any high brow standards, but it just works so well as what it is - a fun loving tale of adventure, romance, and intrigue.

Anthony Andrews gives a unforgettable and hilarious performance that just has to be seen to be believed, playing two characters in the same role that somehow fit into the perfect person.  Seriously, Percy is pretty much my fictional ideal.

Ian McKellen is adorably hammy as the villain, and Jane Seymour manages to be stunning despite the hideous wig she wears.

I love this movie so much I just can’t bring myself to watch any other adaptation.  Why bother?  This one’s the real deal, and one of the rare cases in which I actually prefer the film to the book.

Day 01: The first movie you remember seeing: Aladdin (1992)

Day 02: A movie you can recite word for word: Victor Victoria (1982)
